TCPUG members,

I wanted to take a few minutes to thank everyone for participating on Monday and share a few thoughts.

First, I want to address the lack of quarterly meetings over the last year. Up until 2008 this group tried hard to have a meeting every quarter. During 2007 the number of attendees at these quarterly meetings dropped below 20. Also, getting users to present has become increasingly challenging.

Second, at our annual conference this year we were able to put together a full set of presentations ONLY if we allowed all of the vendors to present. This was not our desire but when there were no responses to several requests for presenters we were left with the decision of letting vendors present or canceling the event.

The bottom line is this is a group that should represent and benefit the users of PTC technology. It needs participation from the users in order to be successful. We (the board) can’t force people to participate. If you have seen value in the networking and educational opportunities this group has had in the past then please consider how you and the people around you can participate at a higher level.

I have been contemplating using more social networking tools to help facilitate communication and encourage more ad-hoc participation. We already have a Linked In group but there are other tools that may be even more useful for the members of this group to share ideas, tips, etc. without attending quarterly meetings.

If you have any thoughts here please pass them along.

Also, please pass along your thoughts on the annual event and how we can best encourage participation in the future.

Sincerely,

Thane Hathaway
Chairman of the TCPUG Board
